Babettes Cafe

Facts

Reservations:

We are happy to make reservations for you. Please call us at 404-523-9121 or click here for online reservations.

Babette's is a very small restaurant. We work very hard to honor everyone's reservation. Here's how you can help us.

  • Please try to arrive on time. We can hold reservations for 15 minutes but out of fairness to other customers, not longer, as it will delay their reservation. If you are running late, please call. We will get you in as soon after your arrival as we can.
  • We cannot seat large parties until everyone has arrived.
  • If you need to cancel, please call us as soon as possible. For peak times we have turned away other guests for your spot and could possible re-book it, if given the opportunity.

Gift Certificates:

Gift certificates are available by calling the restaurant. We can take a credit card over the phone and mail it out to you or directly to your guest. Please call after 4:00 pm Tuesday-Sunday 404-523-9121.

Dress Code:

Babette's does not have a formal dress code. We have guests dressed for the theater or in business attire and guests in jeans and a sport shirt. However you are comfortable is OK with us.

Parking:

Our lot is Valet only. It is very small with some big structural obstacles. If you can't bring yourself to turn over your keys, you may self park on Williams Street next to Manuel's Tavern. We do not recommend parking in our neighbor's lots.

Children:

Nicely behaved children are welcome. We even have a few ourselves. We have a limited number of highchairs and even a “Kid's Menu”. Parents, please take your squirmers outside and any parent letting their child become a nuisance will be flogged.

Alcohol:

We serve beer, wine and liquor every evening and after 12:30 pm on Sunday.

Credit Cards:

We accept MasterCard, Visa, American Express, Diners Discover.

Smoking:

Smoking is not permitted.

Dietary Needs:

Dieting? Atkins, Southbeach, Weight Watchers or The Beer and Bacon Diet'? We will do our best to make substitutions for you. For some items, we may charge a nominal substitution fee, but we are always ready to help.

Private Parties:

We do not have banquet facilities, but we often book the deck for private parties of 20 - 25 people. Groups of less than 15 people can be accommodated in our dining room. Please call and we can help you plan your event.

Off Premise Catering:

Babette's does not offer catering. We can however, help you with your dinner parties, by providing you with meats, sauces, garnishes and lots of the extra special food stuff to set you apart from your friends. We won't tell them. We can provide you with just about any of the items on our current menu. Please give us a call. 24 - 48 hours in advance.

Recipes:

I am happy to provide you with my recipes if you would like. Please e-mail me at marla@babettescafe.com

(Just a note: I have given out the Dried Cherry Tart several times and the guests always cringe when they read it. They end up buying one.)

The Chef

Chef Marla"I'll make this short. I began cooking on a lark in 1980 at a restaurant in Boston. I had graduated from The University of Virginia and was a little burned out. I took a bakery job for $3.50 an hour (in Boston, mind you) and have never left the restaurant business. I LOVE IT. I love the hours, the pace, the people, the food, the challenges and working with my hands and brain at the same time. Food is a craft. It's real and it's essential to everyone. Most of all, I love cooks: line cooks, prep cooks, chefs, sous chefs, all of them. They are a very unique group of people. After a few years I attended the Culinary Institute of American in Hyde Park and upon graduation, headed to Atlanta with a boyfriend. The boyfriend didn't last, but I'm still in Atlanta. There was never a shortage of jobs, and I moved quickly up the ranks in several restaurants and even a hotel. Upon reaching a glass ceiling in one position, in 1992 I decided to open my own place, Babette's Cafe. And here I am."
